Love at first sound wave: How to become a successful female DJ

Want to accelerate your music career? Learn how LSA helped Saya to turn her passion for music into a fully fledged DJ career as a female artist.

How LSA accelerated the pace of my DJ career

So in a way, I guess I’ve been a bit of a ‘late bloomer’ to officially come out as a DJ at thirty-something. However, I also believe that if you love something, it’s never too late to go for it and execute your dreams. And that’s exactly what I’ve done with DJing.

I’ve always been fascinated by music, I’ve always hung around with DJs (to their great annoyance I’m sure), and I’ve even had a stab at playing a few musical instruments in the past. I’ve been a ballroom and latin dancer for years, so DJing and being immersed in music and rhythm has come naturally to me. The passion has always been there, but since I signed up with London Sound Academy in 2017, a completely different pace has taken over my DJ career.

I planned to take some professional DJ courses with LSA, learn my way through the basic, intermediate and advanced lessons and perhaps move onto production after I mastered the art of DJing with the fantastic DJ tutors that LSA has to offer. And maybe, just MAYBE, I would start gigging after I had all this experience under my belt. Well, as we all know, things don’t always go to plan. Or like in my case, the plan is proceeding at an accelerated pace!

After only two months of being trained by LSA, I have found myself gaining quite a lot of interest from event/club promoters, and on top of that, I’ve been booked to play in several clubs around Hertfordshire, London and internationally in Finland too, where I’m originally from. Bookings now range from private parties to corporate events and club nights. I have also got the opportunity to launch and run my own weekly house music radio show – and I l absolutely love the world that has opened up to me since walking in through the doors of London Sound Academy. I’ve literally had to pinch myself to believe what’s been taking place. My passion has turned into profit pretty much instantly. And my passion for music and being immersed in music is growing each day.

I’ve also noted that thefact that I’m a female DJ (I surehope that’s pretty obvious for all of course) has gained me a lot of attention. Ina very positive way. I think it’s about time more ass-kicking female DJs and producers entered the scene, as there’sdefinitely not enough of us yet. There are some awesome female DJs andproducers for sure, all over the world; however I’m confident there’s room formore. The more role models we have showing us and the next generation the way,the better.

So, this is my thank you to you, LSA.

The academy has certainly kicked my budding female DJ career forward big time. Idid not expect to move on my path so fast. I’m definitely going to embrace it,enjoy the ride and go for it! I’m very excited about the future and what the DJand music scene has in store for me and my alter ego ‘SAYA’.

Live, love and DJ!That’s what I say. Hopefully I’ll get to work with some amazing DJs andproducers; female and male - and get to entertain the crowds globally. That’sessentially what my goal and dream is. Music is my art and therapy.
