I joined London Sound Academy with absolutely no DJ experience and have now completed the Advanced Course, with Elite next. Everybody is welcoming and supportive, creating such an inclusive environment where you can be creative and develop your own style. I’ve gained so much inspiration to pursue a passion I’ve had since childhood.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are DJ lessons in-person or online?

We offer you the option to learn in-person at our studios or book online lessons. In-person lessons are taught at our studios in Camden Town, London. Online lessons are still 1-1 and facilitated via Zoom. If you'd like to book online lessons please contact us.

Do I need any experience or equipment to start?

No. You don't need any experience or equipment to get started. We welcome beginners with zero experience. Talk to us if you're interested in buying some DJ equipment so you can get your special LSA discount.

What music styles do you teach?

You can learn to DJ with the styles of music you love. We teach all genres and have a large library of music at the academy. You can also bring music to your lesson on a USB stick in MP3, WAV or AIFF formats. If you're not sure where to get music from, wait for your first lesson. We'll show you how to find the music you love.

How many lessons are in the course?

There are four lessons of two hours in the Beginner DJ Course. It's the same again for the Intermediate and Advanced levels. There are six lessons of two hours in the Elite DJ Course.

How do I book my lessons?

Once you buy a course, you will receive an email from us with a link to schedule your lessons. You can choose the day, time and tutor. The schedule is up to you; most students take one or two lessons a week, but feel free to choose when you want to come. Some students who travel quite far to reach us will block-book the lessons to form a crash course. If you'd like to condense your lessons into a shorter time period, like a crash course please contact us to arrange your schedule.

How do I know which DJ tutor to book?

All our DJ tutors are experts and teach all genres of music. Book with any tutor who is available when you want to take your lessons. All DJ tutors teach from the same curriculum, so you book with multiple tutors and get to meet more of the team.

We offer lessons seven days a week at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm. We have multiple rooms and tutors on site giving you lots of flexibility to choose your own lesson schedule. For last minute bookings please contact us because we can often open up more availlablity for you. You can also check the available lesson times before buying a course by clicking here.

I already have some experience. Which level should I start with?

If you are self-taught using a DJ controller such as the FLX4, or similar, start with our Beginner DJ Course. Your tutor will begin by checking your skills and ticking off anything you are already confident with. They won't waste time going over stuff you already know. If you're already quite experienced with industry-standard CDJs, you can start with the Intermediate DJ Course. No matter which level you book, your tutor will start by double-checking that your skills match our curriculum. We will always tailor the lessons to suit your ability level.
